GLOUCESTER— Andover coach E.J. Perry said the game plan was to take it to Gloucester physically.

As it turned out Perry’s squad executed the game plan to perfection as a power running game led by senior captain Andy Coke’s 198 yards and dominating play from the offensive line resulted in a 33-16 win at Newell Stadium.

Sean McQuillan singled in the ninth inning to score Alex Driscoll and end a nine-inning battle between Andover and Gloucester, which went in favor of the Golden Warriors 3-2.

Kristen DiTroia won the all-around and Paulina Neukuckatz had a strong meet as North Andover swept Gloucester and Hamilton-Wenham in its season opener.

ANDOVER — The start was perfect for Andover. But then the trouble started.

Pat Farnham took the game’s opened kickoff and ran it back 95 yards for a touchdown, but Gloucester responded by scoring on four of its next five possessions and went on to down the Golden Warriors 38-13 last night in a game played on Thursday due to the Yom Kippur holiday.

North Andover placed fifth in the Girls All State Gymnastics meet. The Scarlet Knights were led by Michelle Hall, who finished eighth overall with a 35.975 and Meghan Buttress rounded out the top-10 with a 35.425

GLOUCESTER — Following the game, Andover coach John Rex shrugged and summed up his team’s performance.

“We need to tackle,” he said. “We need to get back to tackling.”

GLOUCESTER - With each dazzling inning Yunior Vasquez assuaged the pain of a dreadful Lawrence High start to yesterday's Division 1 North quarterfinal.

He could never quite erase the root of that anguish.
